“No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.”
-Julia Child
Do you have a snack you prepare for yourself? A meal you can prep in advance or in the moment before sitting down to eat?
An important independent living skill is being able to plan meals, prep basic snacks and recipes, and to navigate the steps needed (e.g., shopping list, ordering, getting, paying) to ensure you have the materials needed for snacks and meals. These skills foster both improved physical and mental health and overall well-being. Being able to cook and prep snacks and meals helps in making good nutritional choices and is something to be proud of in being able to prep and plan your own menu.
Whether you have standard “go to meals” or are a culinary expert, we can always learn a few new recipes to broaden our options. Check out a food activity template such as Making a Smoothie, Making Toast, Making a Grilled Cheese or another preferred option to try a new recipe today.
