Next Steps™ workshop is a discussion-based workshop in which the team from HANDS in Autism® discuss general information about diagnosis, adjusting to diagnosis, and how to make appropriate treatment decisions. A comprehensive manual is distributed during the workshop (one per household). No direct or individual consultation on treatment decisions will be given.

About Next Steps

Next Steps™ is primarily designed for primary caregivers who have a child that has recently been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, this workshop is also beneficial for other caregivers, educational or therapy professionals, medical providers, and other adult family members.

Due to the kind sponsorship of Kappa Kappa Kappa, Inc., several Next Steps™ workshops a year are offered free of charge. Other workshops receive community sponsorship. Please contact HANDS in Autism® to learn more about hosting a workshop in your area.

Distributed at the event, this manual contains a wealth of information for caregivers of individuals with ASD. The manual is divided into 7 major sections with each section arranged in a similar format in an attempt to provide caregivers with a functional, easy to use manual serves as a resource and reference guide.

Next Steps™ Trainer Certification Program

HANDS in Autism® is developing a trainer certification program that will teach professionals as well as caregivers to hold their own Next Steps™ workshops in the broader community. This way more families will be able to benefit form this helpful information set during what can sometimes be a confusing time. Updates on this project will be added as they develop.
