IIACC Goal 5: Successful Youth Transition to Adult Services, Work, and Independence
Approximately 5.4 million adults aged 18 years and older in the United States have autism (Dietz et al., 2020).
🧠 More than 60% of autistic individuals have transitioned to adulthood (HANDS IPP Survey Data, 2024). Aging in autistic adults varies from the typical aging population. Autistic adults and their caregivers enter their later years with a special set of circumstances.
🧠Majority (74%) of individuals with autism have at least one comorbidity and had a greater average number of comorbidities than their non-ASD siblings. (Khachadourian et al.2023). Assuring good, long-term care and smooth transitions is important
